This Vyond/Storyline mashup project showcases a gamified eLearning course crafted to educate associates on cybersecurity and safety. It immerses learners in an enthralling fantasy role-playing world, where they embark on a quest as either a knight or a wizard. As they navigate through a mythical landscape, they encounter various cyber threats personified as fantastical creatures. These threats are engaged through turn-based combat, where success hinges on correctly answering cybersecurity-related quiz questions. This immersive approach not only enhances engagement but also reinforces key cybersecurity concepts in a memorable and enjoyable way.Â

Initial Design
I began by brainstorming a few ideas and settled on conceptualizing the course as a fantasy RPG. Utilizing a screen flow diagram I outlined the structure and branching scenarios for each slide.Â

Storyboarding
I then crafted a detailed storyboard, outlining dialogues, quiz questions, and visual ideas.I leveraged ChatGPT as my Subject Matter Expert (SME) for generating both the quiz questions and ensuring the cybersecurity information was precise and up-to-date. And to infuse fantasy elements into the narrative and dialogue.

Development
At the heart of the project, I utilized Articulate Storyline to construct the interactive slides, initially incorporating placeholder graphics. I then moved to Vyond for the creation of animations and props, replacing the placeholders. Some of the videos I exported from Vyond were used as-is for animated sequences in the combat scenes, while others were refined in After Effects to extract high-quality still images. For the audio dimension, I extracted tracks from Vyond using Camtasia, and in addition incorporated free sound effects and music from OpenGameArt.org.

Polish
The final phase focused on aesthetic refinement and functionality. I conducted rigorous testing to identify and fix any bugs, and meticulously checked for grammar and spelling accuracy. Additionally, I enlisted the help of my peers to test the course, ensuring any oversights were caught.Â
A significant portion of the polish was dedicated to refining the music. My goal was to enhance the course's immersive quality, particularly by ensuring continuous music playback during quiz combat scenes, emulating the feel of an actual game. This required overcoming some of the inherent limitations of Articulate Storyline, which I did by leveraging JavaScript. By developing a custom audio player with JavaScript, I gained enhanced control over the audio experience, beyond the default capabilities of Storyline.
